After hearing and reading of the name many times can some-one tell me what the term refers too and why it was called thus, probably something quite simple
many thanks.
This is the original forum of the Bristol Railway Archive that existed between 2003 and 2013. I finally rescued it after it seemed unrecoverable after a large crash. I have made it available for viewing. It is locked, all posts to the new version please!

I think I remember reading that it was a siding for goods that the customers unloaded and took away themselves - as opposed to being delivered by the railway's cartage service. The name might denote that such traffic was charged by the mile.tonyperks wrote:After hearing and reading of the name many times can some-one tell me what the term refers too and why it was called thus, probably something quite simple![]()
