An opportunity to see A4 Pacific Bittern in LNER Garter Blue on Thursday running with The Cathedrals Express. The train appears to be running along the main line from Reading rather than the route up the Avon Valley.

I saw it at Chippenham but I won't be posting any record - just before the station the fireman indulged in a bout of firing, and the strong west wind at the time meant that most of my video shows a cloud of brownish-grey smoke with something blue moving behind it.

Some you win, some you lose :(

Off topic, but in its "proper" guise of 60019 I had my one and only ride behind an A4 in BR revenue earning service, on a Glasgow to Aberdeen service back in the summer of 1966 :)

Further to my last post, a friend of mine saw the train at Thingley and noted similar evidence of incomplete combustion there.

Perhaps the crew were having a hard time maintaining steam? Does anybody know how things went on the rest of the journey?

Approx 3 late at Saltford, losing further time between Bath and Chippenham. Approx 30 late through Didcot and 20 late back into the capital. <BJ>
