A sad day for Open Access as National Rail Enquiries announce Wrexham & Shropshire are to cease all train operations after Friday 28 Jan.
Spare a thought for the staff ... and regular passengers.

According to the news, lack of sufficient business was the reason given.
The open access arrangements clearly have their advantages and disadvantages. Whilst they allow entrepeneurs to provide services that would not otherwise be provided, they clearly allow those same people to stop providing the service if they aren't making enough (or anything) out of it.

The service lost ú2.9 million last year and with no sign of any rise in the number of passengers, it became unviable.
A shame, when you think of how hard the company had to fight to gain its paths.
