Does anyone know what is happening in the sidings just south of Parson street station and line to portbury ( where the goods yard used to be ). Seems like the remaining sidings are being lifted. Nothing odd about that as haven't been used for some time, but, large pile of new sleepers stacked up awaiting laying. Are new sidings being layed/or originals re-layed and if so for what purpose.

The rumor is that freightliner are going there asthe residents next to stoke gifford have complained about the class 70's starting in the early hours of the morning.
Also they have a contract for container traffic to move from there to the big wine whaerhouse at avonmouth.
As usual with the railway a lot of rumors.

Typical how long has there been a yard at stoke Gifford......., now people complain, bet there were no complaints when the sidings were being shunted 20 hours a day, when most locals probably worked there..........................NIMBYS drives me mad!
Thing is if the yard closed and they wanted to build houses on it they would complain about taht too.

I remember the residents of a certain Long road with a view of the railway in Charfield moaning about the sidings there!!!!

I went down there today and a spur leading into two sideings and possibly a 3rd are being laid, also the strong smell of cresote on wooden sleepers, very evocative!
While on black bridge further down the line produced two 57s top and tail with only 5 cars and the same formation but with a pair of 67s
So with two voyagers a HST and 2 DMUs that is the most variety I have seen on BR in 30 minetes for over twenty years!

While it would make sense to use West Depot for Portbury / Avonmouth coal wagon storage (no setting back moves in the yard) I don't believe there is any truth to that rumour and Stoke Gifford is just getting busier and busier (lovely!).
However, the story about the wine traffic is completely correct. Route learning engines are running on a daily basis as we speak. ItÆs fantastic to see additional freight in the area.
LetÆs hope East Depot gets some soon as well!

I too have heard 1st June as the start date for traffic.
With regards to the original Freightliner depot, I remember it being in use in the mid seventies.

66542 is currently in West Depot if anyone is interested in getting a photo. It arrived a couple of minutes ago as 0Z66 0929 Southampton Maritime - Parson Street and will be returning later as 0Z67 1500 "Bristol Freightliner Terminal" to Southhampton Maritime via Hully.
