The Avonside Engine Company

Locomotive building in Bristol was begun by Henry Stothert, who in 1837 established a factory near what was later known as Avonside Wharf.

The company subsequently changed its name to the Avonside Engine Company and later moved to Fishponds.

No account that I have read identifies the exact location of the original premises at Avonside Wharf, so I have often wondered: was the building with the large arched doorways in this picture http://andy-kirkham.fotopic.net/p56672015.html the former locomotive works?

And by the way, has anyone seen any other examples like this http://andy-kirkham.fotopic.net/p44290306.html ?

There's a lot of them in Lockleaze. All along Constable Road, and more along Filton Ave.

I always understood this building to be Avonside Ironworks built in 1837 which was indeed the locomotive works . I think it was demolished about fifteen years ago .
