This is a truly horrendous thing to witness/participate in, but there are still plenty of free books to be saved from landfill. Didn't find many railway books, but I spent all day there and barely scraped the surface; the books are piled 2ft deep in some places (and 5ft in one office). It's a terrible, terrible mess, and walking over books is never going to feel anything but completely and utterly wrong, but it's the only way you'll find anything. Curse the "people" who simply tipped everything onto the floor so they could rob the shelving units.

My daughter in law popped in there the other day and confirmed it was quite a mess. She picked up various piles of booklets, a number of which are entitled "Railway Locomotives" published by the British Locomotive Society and include details of shed and works visits as well as gen applicable to that period. The booklets are dated from 1954/5/6 as well as the 60s. The booklets are broken down into Regions.
The March 57 issue contains info about wagons that broke away from a Newport to Bristol mineral train just east of the Severn Tunnel on 19 Feb, becoming derailed on catch points. The line was blocked for 5 hours and London trains diverted via Gloucester. Badminton passngers were taken by caoch to Chippenham. (I was 9 that day!!!!).
