Does anyone have any contact details for Terry Nicholls the railway photographer that I think was Bristol based? He seems to have taken a lot of photographs / film of the Bristol area and I'd love to get in touch with him.

I don't know about Terry, but Maurice Dudman is someone else who took loads of fantastic colour slides around bristol in the mid 1950's, some really obscure and rare locations!

Sounds very interesting! Apart from an advert for a WSR talk called "Steaming Around Bristol" I've not been able to find anything by Google about him. Do you have any contact details for this chap?! I'm always after interesting views of Temple Meads and the surrounding area.

Its probably nearly 40 years since I last heard of Terry Nichols - a long time ago but I have a vague memory that says he worked at Temple Meads then.

Another photographer who had interesting stuff in those days was M.E.J.Deane who lived in the Nailsea area but worked in Bristol - Maurice is probably no longer with us but I would like to know what happened to his pictures.

Another photographer from that era was Gerald Peacock and I see a number of his pictures on the web site. I would like to get in touch with him again as I spent many days in his company if anyone has any contact details.

Hmmm... here's a complete list of all the people I'd like to get in touch with. Perhaps someone will know of them or what has happened to their photographs?

A lot of familiar names on your list .

I last heard of R Toop when he was resident in Bath - Englishcombe Lane I think but it was a long time ago.

Roye England was the founder of Pendon Museum so that would be a good place to start looking for his photos .

Colin Maggs still writes railway books as far as I know.

Hugh Ballantyne was RCTS Bristol Group.

If I see a ceratin driver in work I will let him know of your desire .

I have been to talks/slide shows by both Terry Nicholls and Colin Maggs within the last 3 or 4 years.

Incidentally, is there anyone out there sitting on any of their own photographs of the Diesel Hydraulic Warships. I collect these and would be interested in any new material, I'm more interested in content than photographic perfection although both would be just great!

I know that all those three gentlemen are now deceased.

About five years ago I met on a train a member of the Bristol Railway Circle of which I had been a junior member in the 1970's, and Maurice Deane had been a member too. He told me Maurice had died a few months before, in his nineties.

The Transport Treasury http://www.transporttreasury.co.uk/ now holds the collections of a number of famous photographers, including that of Bristolian George Heiron - one of the greats in my opinion.

Ron Toop died last year. he had about 2000 negatives in albums, 400 of which were S&D. I bought copies of most of the S&D pics as 6x4 prints in the mid 90's whilst running the midsomer norton project. I think his collection, including 200 colour uk railway slides and a mountain of books, would have, I hope been secured by his friend Colin Maggs, or possibly the local methodist church as he was an only child who suffered from epileptic blackouts about once a month all his life. It would be worth finding out. There were only about 5 bristol colour slides and possibly no more than 50 bristol negatives though.

I worked in the same office as Maurice Deane in the 1960's . He was one of the nicest people I have ever met - one of natures gentlemen.

I know it's two years after the original post, but Terry Nicholls appears to be presenting a talk for the GWS in Filton on March 8, entitled "Bristol in the 60s and GWR 150 specials".
