Parson Street Station

Post by sideways »

Hi everybody, when I was young my brother and I would train spot on the platforms at parson street station,it was unmanned when we went spotting there, but one day someone had kicked the door in to the booking office so we had a look around. very interesting it was too!

Sadly we were to late to see any steamers but there was warships, westerns, and hymeks.

So I was wondering if anybody has any pics of Parson Street in the 60s and early 70s?

No photos I am afraid, but I went to School at Withywood from southville so my bus passed over Parsons Street Bridge every day. Great views even of a 9F that was derailed. Get hold of a Bradford & Barton copy of GW Steam around Bristol and also the B&R video Steam around Bristol. I remember that a loco no less than City of Truro which was put back into service in the late 50s used to stand in the sidings there.

Noggins,I have the book you mention with the 9F off the road!

Wish I had taken photos then, but money was very tight for my mum so no camara back then.

I think what I miss these days is all the lineside funiture, and knowing a train is on the way because the signal dropped with a clang!

Happy days.

My oldest recollection of those days was Victoria Park, just the TM side of Bedminster Station. Fantastic view of the line. All the SW bound trains out of and into TM plus the freights that took the avoiding line to st Phillips marsh. In the late 50s the Warships were just coming in. I can still remember the smell of them. On Sundays we went to Barrow Road where the exotic Midland Engines were. The staff knew we were there but only chased us out occasionally. Great Times. I'd love to go back but keep my 2009 creature comforts.

There are a couple from the early 70's in my Bristol Railways Fotopic collection. http://andy-kirkham.fotopic.net/c834086.html I hope they are of interest.
