D832 Onslaught arrived at Bishops Lydeard yesterday, for an extended summer stay on the WSR at The D&EPG Williton Diesel Depot - many thanks to the ELR.
Onslaught will be moved to Williton today (Friday), for a short period of repair - a simple cylinder head change being the major item of work - to be completed over the next few weeks.
She will then be appearing during the D&EPG gala from June 13th - 15th.
Nice - a Warship back on true home territory!

Now if ever there was an incentive for a photo competition...

As a matter of interest, did Warships ever run to Minehead? I think the only photos I've seen of diesels show Hymeks or D63XX's.
What colour is 832 in nowadays? To my mind the only proper livery for a Warship is green with small yellow panels; blue with full yellow ends completely ruined their looks.

.....or maroon with small yellow panels (nice).
Try this link from wsr.org of John Tookes photograph of the Warship.

A fond memory I have of the class was when I would cycle over to Frome to see the pairing of Warships on the Paddington to the West Country services. Happy days. <BJ>

As far as I know, it was always Hymeks and D63XX as you say and Warships never did run to Minehead. That's what I've been told by others on the WSR at least, though no doubt someone will now post a picture to prove us all wrong!
Of course, both preserved Warships have run to Minehead during WSR days.

I quite like the Warships in BR Blue

I'd still like Warships if they were pink with purple spots!!

Engines

BTW, anybody here know why the engines on a Western are in the middle, with the cooler groups on the outside?
As opposed to the more sensible arrangement on a Warship (in weight terms) of engines almost over the bogies and cooler groups in the middle?
I can tell you
After a couple of years on the Warships, none of the WR drivers of the time thought they could put up with much more of that Maybach thrash right behind the cabs!
Union meets Swindon design team and one classic design mutates into yet another!
