Bristol to Chippenham Shuttle Service

Post by BristleGWR »

Just been looking at the excellent photo's taken by John Rawlings of the above service, which are viewable here: http://bristol-rail.co.uk/wiki/index.ph ... ce_24.3.08

The first two shots look to be taken between Saltford and Bath, but does anyone know exactly where they were taken from?

The shuttles were photographed just after they had passed the site of Saltford station heading east, the A4 ascending Saltford Hill is visible on the left. I too would like to know the exact spot he was at to take them.

Anyone know where this train/stock came from?

I saw a similarly made up train last week (friday??) going through Stonehouse towards Gloucester.

It looked like a Class 67 at either end with the aqua/blue (ex-arriva?) mk2 stock and some ex-virgin mk2 aswell.

I have looked on google earth and with some knowledge of area I think photos were taken in vicinity of Corston footbal field across field below which due to land contours obscures saltford road and in front of railway can be seen rugby fields. try approx 59'23'17n 2'26'09w as a ball park location I don't think he was far from there. The photos are all good, I wonder if some were taken from a microlite due to hight some appear taken from :)

I thought they were mark 2 carriage stock that wessex trains used to have? But then I guess they're not because they don't have wessex trains colours on them!

How much longer do you think Mk2 carriages will be used?

Yeah refering to the aqua coloured mk2's; I have a feeling these could be Anglia rather than Arriva!

I think the location for those shots was above Newton St Loe, somewhere near here.
Hopefully John Rawlings can confirm...?

John's been in touch to confirm the location as just off Pennyquick.
He's emailed me a scan taken from this map.

Thanks JR!
