Spent half hour at my fav railway bridge this week and noticed that a new relay room has been installed half way up Filton Bank. This quite nicely blocks any chance of reinstating four tracks up the hill. Anyone know why it's been installed?

surely they'd have to replace it anyway if they added another 2 tracks, or?

I suppose it depends what it's for! Either way, they should be planning for the future when they install anything of this nature. It's bad enough that the council/government allow building on redundant trackbed, without the railway industry doing the same.

Probably for the same reason that sees councils repainting road markings the week before they dig up the road.

Looks like it's quite effective at blocking the Yellow Van route too!!

Mystery solved, a mobile phone mast has gone up. I reckon that will make it just that little bit harder to move if anyone should plan on sticking the track back down.
