RAILWAY STATION'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY
A Special exhibition and booklet have been launched to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Bradford on Avon Railway Station.
More than 200 photographs of the station and trains are being showcased in the Priory Barn, in Newtown, this week.
The exhibition, which runs until Sunday, was officially launched last Friday, together with an anniversary booklet detailing the troubled history of the railway's birth, construction and continued existence.
It also celebrates the station buildings and illustrates the changing types of train that have served the line.
The booklet was masterminded by Neil Mattingly, of the Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust.
He wanted to help raise the ú1,500 that the rail group Steam Bradford on Avon 150 needs to bring a pannier tank engine to Bradford station later this month as part of the anniversary celebrations.
In total, 1,000 booklets have been printed, priced at ú2.99 each, and they are available from the station and tourist information centre.
For every copy sold, ú1 will go towards helping the appeal.
"At the time, it seemed difficult to raise ú1,500 but all these different things can help raise the money," said Mr Mattingly. "This book was really exciting to do.
"I think we are so fortunate, it is a successful station. It is very busy and it is working."
