Narroways Junction. 5.5.07

Post by madhattie »

Narroways Junction is currently being renewed. Filton Bank is closed to trains and diversions (and buses) are in place.

Can anyone get a pic? I'm in work today, and have got to visit the rellies tomorrow and won't be able to do a site visit.

OK, got some photos from a few various locations. Not sure how they have come out due to
a ) My low level of skill with a camera
b ) Only using an old, cheap, secondhand digital thing

I'll get them on email to you a bit later tonight!

Narroways

I've done some too. About 4pm today. Appears they have replaced the Down line crossing with plain track. I wonder where the new crossover for SB branch will be ....

In eMail ...

Cheers both, stars the pair of you!

I popped down tonight at about 8.30pm and took some photos. The line was floodlit right down at least as far as Stapleton Road station.

I think the crossover will be located at the same spot as before, and what they've done is put down a temporary track to facilitate the removal of spent ballast. I imagine they'll dig down a fair old way, stick in new drainage, put down the fleecy/polythene blanket stuff that they use, then put in the new junction.

I'll get a few of the photos online in the next hour or two. (got to do a backup of stuff changed while at work today first!)

Neat!

Post by jules »

I was expecting at least 10 bristol-railway-archive members there this afternoon after your request!

Such a shame about the caged in footbridge over the SVB line. I guess the main line bridge, being concrete, was too difficult to do. But probably in time ....

When I was a kid, we used to sit on the concrete ledge under the Eatsern end of that bridge on a rainy Saturday morning and watch the goings on at the gasworks, the D63xx's, Hymeks, Westerns and Warships go by.

Ah, happy days. Now everything is fenced off, it's no wonder these days kids are bored stiff ....

I'm sure it will be done. Stanley Farm is concrete and that was the first to be worked on! Having said that, Narroways is a big span of concrete and maybe they can't stick all that additional weight on top quite so easily. (wishful thinking... !)

Anyway, Narroways page updated:

http://www.bristol-rail.co.uk/narroways.php

It'll be great if you can get some more tomorrow :D I shall pop along when I can too. Between us and Portishead Prowler we'll have a nice documentary series showing the work from start to finish 8)

Re-opened today

Was open for the first SB train of the morning today. All looked very tidy as I went past.

A top job by NR it seems!

Ballast

Post by jules »

Not a lot by the seem of it. They did the job properly and dug all the old stuff out .... I spent the weekend popping down there and photographing the work following a request by Madhattie who was otherwise engaged.

No doubt pics coming to a page here soon!
