New Members Take Note

Post by madhattie »

Any new member trying to join the forum should give me a clue as to who they are and why they're interested in joining. There's been a flood of spammers of late and a couple of genuine posters have had their accounts deleted after signing up simply because there was nothing to distinguish them from the porno people.

Just a couple of words. Ie. whereabouts you live, which bit of the railway system in Bristol interests you etc. Something to let me know you're not peddling kiddie porn. (or rape, as seems to be this weeks fav)

I know it's a pain, but I spend so much time dealing with this problem that it interferes with everything else.

Cheers,
Pete

I see "italian-****-gets-******" is our newest member? I've tried the link on her profile but couldn't see any Bristol Railway photos!

There's been an absolute flood of porno spammers this last week. I've wasted countless hours dealing with them. Stupidly. the forum software means they can't post until an admin (ie me!) approves them, but there's no way to stop them showing in the members list in the meantime

PS. I've edited your original post otherwise it'll show up in a Google search and bring even more of them in this direction.

Shame, I quite liked her user name!

I can imagine it's pretty frustrating. A music forum I'm on had been plagued by spammers recently. Very annoying, surely no one clicks on the links they post?!

They'd be daft to do so, the pages are usually booby-trapped.

It is frustrating, and time consuming, but I get a great deal of pleasure from catching them at it and banning their IP address! :P

Giggle at the members list !

Hi all.

Having just ' rejoined ' I thought I should point out that my member's name
is not associated with cricketers attire - but simply where my father was a signalman !!

Good to be back !

People really need to read this if they're joining the forum. All you have to is fill in one of the relevant info boxes with something like 'i like railways' or 'bristol 1960s' etc. Otherwise I have no way of knowing if you're genuine or not. There's no point emailing me asking why I've not activated your account if I've deleted it because you've not done what I've requested, especially if your email and/or ip address is from outside the UK.
