On Saturday 31st March 2007 a double headed train The Royal Duchy leaves Bristol Temple Meads at 09.40 behind Great Western Railway steam locomotives, 5051 Drysllwyn Castle and 6024 King Edward I. The train heads to Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance. According to information on The Railway Touring Company's website the two steam engines are put on at Stoke Gifford, near Bristol Parkway.

Pasted from http://www.railwaytouring.co.uk/2007pag ... lduchy.htm

I haven't yet seen timings on the UK Steam website, but no doubt they will be added soon. I belive that these two engines return from Penzance to Temple Meads on April 7th. Perhaps even the FGW MD might be impressed...

I was under the impression it was going to be done in the down loop at Stoke Gifford.

Though the signalling of the UP Badminton actually allows for detachments and attachments at the Welsh end there is no provision for this on the Down line. Either way, "modern" movements can take a lot longer than in days of old so I can't see there's a big enough gap in traffic on the up line to allow it to be done there.

Further to my previous post 6024 and 5051 bring the tour back to BTM on Easter Saturday from Penzance.
71000 starts the tour on the good Friday with the Paddington BTM leg of the tour.
It is then diesel hauled on the Saturday down to Penzance and will be returned the same day to BTM by 6024 and 5051.
71000 then takes the tour from BTM to Preston on easter sunday.

According to UKsteamInfo, the 'lead engine' is detached at Long Rock (short of Penzance), so presumably only one engine is entering Penzance:

Does anyone know which engine is being detached and why? What then happens to it?

6024 was on the front, and 5051 behind, left a couple of minutes late. Have started to sort out some pictures.

6024/5051 Through Nailsea/Backwell 0920, delighting the assembled 50+ enthusiasts with a fine turn of speed.
They were preceded at 0900 by class 47's 47601/47854 which I assume brought the "Duchy" down from Birmingham this morning and were heading to Penzance "light" engine to return the tour later today.

Still haven't worked out how to post the pictures with a direct link. Must be intellectually challenged as a short plank.

This link takes you to the shot.
