The last one is interesting because I've alway believed that the rules and regs state that no one is allowed to travel in the rear cab of a HST? Something to do with a pressurized cab?

The reason for not travelling in the rear relates to the risk to health should the fire bottles in the engine compartment go off. The person in the picture appears to be wearing overalls which suggests he may be keeping an eye on something.

PERSON SAT IN HST REAR CAB

Post by Roger »

Perhaps FGW are now hiring staff to sit in the rear cabs to count how many customers have been left behind. This could be a growth industry for people looking for employment within FGW - at least one person based in every unit.

Best new year wishes to all users of this site and let us hope FGW get something right next year!!!!!!

The last FGW service i was on, from Bristol to Salisbury, it was the food trolley attendant in the back cab, it was the only place left for her it was so packed!! And we didn't see her through the train once, she would of needed to be teleported from one coach to the other, there was no way she would of got through let alone the trolley.
I am sure the next move by FGW will be to remove the seats to make more room, then remove all other facilities to make more room. Somebody should try and sale FGW some old cattle trucks, i am sure they would be interested. I used to be a supporter of FGW, a changed man now!!

Did you say cattle trucks? Behold the Class 376 Electrostar commuter unit...it has hardly any seats!

I'm sure FGW will go straight for a Turbostar version of these when they have to replace the current units...
