Any ideas for a central theme to act as a main focus of discussion?
Family hols beckon and we're into the midweek running now so likely to be September when I could manage another Monday. I'm sure you weren't expecting the 55F contingent to manage every meeting so go ahead and have a good'un.

We had a party of "festoons" (WV slang for photographers who are usually festooned with paraphernalia) from the Bristol area the other day. I was busy scraping in an axlebox bearing for the WD 2-8-0 but as they passed on a guided tour of the shed I pointed out the 4F which was outside on a pit, as being one of theirs. We've seen enough of that bloody thing said they. Obviously not one of the exotic "cops" to be had at 82E then!

Regards
Ralph

I would certainly come if I could.

Maybe not a very exotic cop Ralph but she certainly earnt her corn back in the 60's. I must admit, she didn't exactly sound in top fettle clanking up Fishponds Bank not long before going out to grass.

Judging by the slow response to Robin's suggestion, you might actually be coming down to the next meeting.

I wasn't sure if the lack of responses meant that everybody was on holiday or whether it was a quiet but resounding "no"

Given the shortage of responses so far, it did make me think that perhaps holidays might be getting in the way at the moment and we might be better off thinking about sometime in September.

Which might of course take away Ralph's and the other 55F men's reasons for not coming! :)

Greetings All,

Back from holiday in deepest Brown Badger country. Norton is on the IOM this week for the Grand Prix and much of September is spoken for as is the first half of October due to our gala weekend 12th to 14th- 43106 the Flying Pig is the visiting attraction. Obviously we don't want to restrict you local lads to choice of dates but if you get thinking about some time in October the tea leaves tell me that Monday 22nd could work for us.

Hope you are all in good order.

All the best, from 55F.

My busy social calendar only has one date filled in for October so far.
22nd is fine with me. Any suggestions for a theme apart from meeting up for a drink?

Telling the 55F men what S&D men thought of "Flying Pigs?"

I'll be back in Bristol by 22nd, but only just, so probably a bit jet-lagged. I'm up for it though!

I think its' rapidly starting to look like 22nd October then, gentlemen :)

PS - that's not a sexist remark, simply that there were only blokes that turned up last time. The female gender are of course welcome to attend ;)

Should we go to The Barley Mow again? Must admit, I quite liked it there ...

I think the Barley Mow is a pretty good choice.

Five minutes walk from the station, relatively easy to find and, most importantly, the landlord knows how to keep real ale :)

I've still got "Buy six, get one free" beer tokens to use up there too!

Actually, aside from the other things, I liked the place because of its location too - a proper back street pub, just over the road from the old railway yard and not too much changed since the 60s.

The sort of place we undoubtedly would have been in had we all worked at 22A/82E / St Philips way back then :D

The last train to Salisbury leaves at 2225. The last London (that I shall be on) leaves at 2230.
