Lovely... Did you get a chance to explore the Purton barge graveyard?BristleGWR wrote:Went over to Purton (the one on the west side of the Severn) this morning, it was very busy there as well.

The sun was behind my left shoulder when I took the pics about 5.25. Not sure about the sun's position for the morning runs. could be interesting for a couple of weeks with glint type shots for the return run. The location ought to be good for other late afternoon steam runs from Bristol, but when that will happen is open to question. I wasn't completely happy with thte pics.
Will try and post some shots from the morning trip, managed to take a couple of shots of the fire from inside the cab.

Hi Rich, that's the other Purton the one on the east sideRich_Eason wrote:Lovely... Did you get a chance to explore the Purton barge graveyard?BristleGWR wrote:Went over to Purton (the one on the west side of the Severn) this morning, it was very busy there as well.
It was considered, as it might be possible to get a shot from there with one of the wrecks in the foreground, in the end I opted for the other Purton instead.
A shot showing some of the crowd at Purton.

If it helps at Hewish LC for the Torbays (based on last years timings) the sun in the morning (at approx 9.30) will be about 45 degrees to the line from the south east and in the evening (at approx 21.15) it will be about 10 degrees off perpendicular to the line to the west.mow wrote:The sun was behind my left shoulder when I took the pics about 5.25. I take no credit in finding this but a few words from the driver after the run from Cardiff to Bristol

There are a couple of clips on You Tube with yesterdays run, one along the Severn from Sharpness Side, couple at Pilning and one from the location of my second pic.

I must say we had a great run from Cam/Dursley down to Minehead, A good sprint from 67002 down to TM then a fantastic run from Tornado to Minehead .
Another cracking run back from the 67 too must have been at least 90 on the levels, a hard brakeing left the carriage stinking of brake material.
All in all an excellent day out and the misses liked it too.
