Interests: Number 1 is the Mrs, of course...Currently writing dissertation for Master's Degree, so not too much time to photograph stuff, but very interested in trains, planes, photography,....
Railway interests: Local (obviously), The Withered Arm(Ilfracombe, Torrington, went on the last train to Torrington 06/11/1982), Isle of Man. During 1990/1 spent a week chasing 50's around Devon/Dorset. More recently USA stuff, especially Union Pacific.
Surprising railway related fact: Had my wedding reception in an old Union Pacific Railway Station in Boise, Idaho.

Railway interests: Local dock systems, especially Avonmouth Docks. My grandfather was a train driver on the docks, and as a youngster had the opportunity to ride on the Sentinels, and Hudswell Clarks (Did see the long line of Peckits in the now demolished granary - sad sight)
I would welcome if anyone had any pictures they would share of the Dock system at Avonmouth in the 60's and 70's

Virtually all my family is in NZ. Probably should've moved back by now but I met a Cornish lass when I came to Bristol for Uni in '96, and never left!

Interests: History - especially Industrial/Modern & Military. Planes, Trains, Ships and Automobiles, Music, Books & Film, especially Fantasy & Sci-Fi. Mountains and the coast. Walking, surfing and snowboarding. Gaming.
I've always been fascinated by the history of the railways, much more so than current operations. I love steam, and old diesels, but modern trains don't hold much interest for me. I love walking the old lines, and wish that some of them had never closed. Google Earth and Google Maps have been a revelation to me in terms of following them round Bristol.
For practical reasons, I'd like to see some of the short-sighted closures under Beeching reversed, but the romantic in me would like to see some of the totally non-practical lines back as well!
This looks like a good place to find others who feel the same!

Absolutely.
I should caveat that I've lived in England practically all my life, so most of the reasons behind me loving BR come from all those early steam train rides as a kid, not to mention rides on the Specials with my stepdad (although I suspect that's through very rose-tinted glasses!)...
But to be fair, most of the family in NZ are also confirmed petrol and steam-heads.
I'm proud of both heritages. You'll find me just as at home on the Silver Fern as on the Torbay Express
