It has four photos and some interesting quotes from Harry Hancocks, Shed Master, and Edwin Jackson, Mechanical Foreman.
It would appear that he did work for the Evening Post..

Any chance you could scan it and put it up here so we can have a look?

Sounds fascinating ...

Hello Patrick, yes - Roger Bennett did indeed work for the Evening Post. Could you *coughs* scan the article?

I have scanned the article by Roger Bennett from the Evening Post on Monday November 15, 1965. It is in two parts as the Evening Post was a broadsheet at that time. Having been folded and kept at the back of one of my notebooks for the last 45 years, you will appreciate the less than perfect condition of photos.

The shedmaster and foreman in the photo I saw many times as I went round the shed on an almost daily basis from mid 1961 until closure in November 1965. They never bothered me as I daily wrote down the steam turns from the Roster Board.

Yes - before leaving the 'Post to work for radio Bristol, he was Chief Reporter. He was of course also an accomplished jazz musician, with his own band "The Blue Notes"

A funny (well, not for Roger!) story: back in the '80s I walked into Bristol Cathedral, and whom should I see but a rear view of Roger, chatting to a member of the choir. as I passed, I clapped hm on the shoulder and said "All right, Roger?!" Whereupon he switched off his (invisible from the back) tape recorder, said "Oh, hello Andrew", and then, to the chorister "excuse my cousin - shall we start again?!"

Thank you for sharing :D Really quite melancholy times for all concerned.

Quite ironic the Post chose to run an ad for road vehicles right next to an end of steam article.
