71000 3rd, 4th & 5th May

Saw the Duke arrive on time. However, the train stopped directly underneath the most unphotographic spot at Temple Meads Station.

Thankfully I took a tripod with me.

A small crowd and a couple of Yorkshire Terriers at Narroways Junction footbridge watched the Duke towing a Class 67 and some pristine carmine and cream coaches up Filton Bank on time this morning. No sunshine, almost no rain and plenty of choking black smog.

Nice pics, look what a tripod can bring about!
I love the way the steam has become a haze, and yet the duke so sharp, beautiful.

Surprised you didn't get linched as a "suspected terrorist", as Network Rail guidelines now bans the use of Tripods in a number of stations.

Great pics though.

It woke me up this morning going through FAW about 7:30am howling away in the morning sunrise...shame I missed it though as I've been out twice this weekend to see it!

I nearly didn't see it tonight. Got there about 40 minutes early and it arrived within 3 or 4 minutes!!

Light wasn't good, a bit hazy and didn't really have time to plan the shot, hence not as good as I hoped.

Managed to get over to Pilning and have now added three shots. It was very very busy, and I had trouble parking the car. The shots have now been posted.

There were two Network Rail chaps watching the loco at BTM last night, nothing was said about not being able to bring a tripod onto the station. (Perhaps the lack of the MG 42 helped).In fact there was another guy with a tripod at the end of Platform Five. The NR people seemed to like the pics. It really was very quite last night when the train turned up, had thougth there would be more people about.

I did wonder about my sanity getting out of bed at 6.25 to see this engine leave Bristol. My good lady thinks that she should certify me, and would do so if I start showing interest in diesels.

I have no idea if I ever saw it running before 1968, so I was quite keen to see it with a complete train.

All bar the few remaining "proper" diesels she would be quite correct to ceritfy you!

The days of double headed 37's touching a heady 25mph climbing out of Severn Tunnel on the climb to Bristol are sadly long gone

Ladies can never understand the pleasure of a hot pumping piston that emanates a smell of hot oil and steam!!!!!!!!!!!!!
