LOCOMOTIVE STEAMS BACK IN TIME

10:40 - 19 February 2007

A Restored steam train pulled into Temple Meads, having taken passengers on a journey back in time across the country. The Tangmere is one of the locomotives that used to operate on the Brighton-to- Cardiff route before the days of diesel.

On Saturday, the fully restored engine recreated part of its old route by setting off from East Croydon, travelling through Salisbury and completing its journey at Temple Meads.

It arrived in Bristol at around 1.30pm on Saturday, and started to make its return journey at around 4.30pm.

Its journey on Saturday was organised by The Railway Touring Company (RTC).

People from Bristol who wanted to travel on the train could only join at the start of the journey, but were allowed to get off at Temple Meads, rather than complete the return trip, if they wished.

The journey sold out a few weeks ago and proved so popular that the RTC already has plans to hold another trip in late March or early April, and then a further trip in May.

For more information on future journeys, or to book a seat, call the RTC on 01553 661500.

I'm not surprised she was noticed...she was right by the main ticket barriers and certainly attracted a crowd!

Good to see it made the paper too, TM was certainly a busy place on the way back home on Saturday, including the 3xClass 66's and 37 (Cardiff Canton) all coupled up together sat waiting to depart.

Made my day when they started up the "37" 8)

I always think there is something cringeworthy when the press prefix a named loco with "the".... The Tangmere.... :?

I apologise in advance:

In my defence, YouTube's lowering of the quality makes it appear worse than it is.
