Bristol Express 1962

Post by jules »

Not quite sure what to make of this, but enjoy - "Bristol Express" by Valerie Mountain & The Eagles from the 1962 film "Some People".

Seems the whole thing was filmed on the tramway, er sorry - I mean, Southern Region!

Lots of good old film of Bristol if you search "Some People Bristol" on youtube though ...

I'm very fond of the film and its soundtrack. There are a few glimpses of the old timber yards at Hotwells right at the start of the film, which is in colour, but sadly no steam trains. There are, however, a few old Bristol buses!

Hopefully the film will get a DVD release one day. It's not been shown on TV for many years. I tried to get The Watershed to screen it as being of local interest (lots of scenes of locations that no longer exist) but they could not have been less interested.

Perhaps The Cube could be persuaded to show it. I'll get in touch with them ...

The film almost appeared to be a colour updated version of London to Brighton in 5 minutes with a distinctive Bulleid sound added towards the end.

I remember the film well and bought the single "Some People".

Oh what memories. :)
