The late-1965 open day may have been the very first one, and was notable in having several engines from Barrow Road shed, which closed soon after.

I recall a "Grange", "Hall." Pannier and 61xx tank being present from the 82E allocation.

The sight of kids clambering over the engines seems incredible now-
Today's health and safety conscious society would probably demand barriers being placed between exhibits and the viewing public.

Incidentally,I was told a few years ago that the open days were ended due to the amount of pilfering of parts that occurred during the last few events.

Wasn't me, - Honest, Guv !!!

Yeah - thats a bit rich really if you remember how Bath Road Shed staff would strip every station that closed in the area of everything from signage to tickets so that they could be sold at the Open Day to raise funds for the railway charities

In 1974 or thereabouts when I was at Bath Road a memo came round that, reading between the lines, said:

"Will you buggers stop nicking the anti freeze to go in your cars because we haven't got enough left to put in the diesels"

I remember going to a open day at temple meads 1969 I think it was 12 years old by myself

I was train spotting on the plateforms when I saw the open day being prepared, I had already wasted 2p on a plateform ticket out of a total of 12 and a half pence so I blew the rest on admisson fee and walked back to hartcliffe

I had a great time climbing on all the engines but there was a grumpy engineman who swore at some kids for flatening the batteries on the diesels by constantly blowing the horns!
