Bit of a disaster, this one. 47760 failed (3 times) on the way to from Poole with a broken coolant pipe. Tour cancelled at Salisbury after sitting in the tunnel for a while. Tangmere still in Barton Hill with Dartmouth Express headboard on, and support crew twiddling their thumbs. 47245 sent from Southall to rescue stock...no idea what's happening to pax.

Just a thought - why didn't they send Tangmere to rescue the train? It was after all sitting around doing nothing!James wrote:Bit of a disaster, this one. 47760 failed (3 times) on the way to from Poole with a broken coolant pipe. I accept that things might have changed a lot since my days in Bath Road in the 70s, but knowing the road to Salisbury for a Bristol crew should surely not be a problem?
It did occur to me and quite a few other people I talked to, so there must have been a good reason for WCRC to decide against it. Who knows!Robin Summerhill wrote:Just a thought - why didn't they send Tangmere to rescue the train? With the exception of your using the word "good" before "reason" I agree with you!James wrote:It did occur to me and quite a few other people I talked to, so there must have been a good reason for WCRC to decide against it. Who knows!Robin Summerhill wrote:

A tender full of coal would have made the round trip, but I suppose water would have to be arranged somewhere at short notice. Perhaps that was the reason
