castle to west somerset

Post by Injector »

:P
Hi everyone
Yesterday I was fishing at Emerald pool neer Highbridge station When I herd a sound I have not herd for manny years. :o I looked up to see a wonderful sight there in full flight was a Castle class with brake van, must have been doing all of 70mph or so, It brought back so many memories
I could almost tast it, the lurch of the cab the judder of the tender plate
the smell of hot oil and coal fire Tugboat Charle will know what I meen.
My only regret was that I was to far away to see which castle it was but
how I whished I was a young Fireman again standing on that footplate
That was when we had a railway

Bet you enjoyed that Injector ,it is nice to have a lovely memory and think about when we had a real railway ,not these bus type things we have to-day. Of course that was the civilised way to travel in a compartment and not the modern cattle truck including those damed phones, have a nice day all of you readers :D

Shame on you! It was Kinlet Hall! :P

It'll be appearing at the West Somerset Railway Spring Steam Gala, this and next weekend (21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29 March).

As James said it was Kinlet Hall, managed to escape from work for half an hour to see it at Hewish level crossing.

Tugboat
I remember those compartments, as I recall they were very cold in the winter as the heating never seemed to work and stuffy in the summer
But people used to talk to each other in those days and you could always stand in the corridor  if there was no seat. and we used to stand up and offer our seat to a lady

Was very embarassed a little while ago when I cought a train to Exeter St Davids which was very full and a lady stood up and offerd me her seat
Must be showing my 70 years a bit more these days, still only a boy to you

...and all GWR locos look the same?

There are now two Halls on the WSR, as 6960 "Raveningham Hall" has arrived for completion of her overhaul, and hopefully some running-in. I do like the Modified Halls, and was very impressed with Foremarke Hall on the GlosWarks. What a shame there are none of the modified variant on the mainline.

p.s. That is a beautiful picture BristleGWR
