Wayne Spence, MBE

I'm a bit slow on the uptake but I've just read that the fantastic Wayne Spence (who'll be a familiar face to regular passengers at Temple Meads) was awarded an MBE in the New Year's honours list for services to passenger transport. Massive congratulations to Wayne!

I've known Wayne for over twenty years and I also know that his honour is richly deserved. Well done Wayne!

As a daily commuter into BTM, I was really pleased to read about the award, he's a wondefully helpful person, especially when things go wrong, and is always ready to go that extra mile to help and advise customers. It's nice to see "little" people (if you know what I mean) like Wayne getting recognised as well as these company directors and politicians - well done Wayne, and thanks for all your help. Commuters may give the impression that all they want to do is moan about the fares and services but believe me they really do appreciate the hard work and efforts of staff like Wayne.

I agree with all that has been said. On more than one occasion I have known him to wander along the platform and offer updates to enthusiats awaiting a special arrival. Very deserving award to a very modest person. Could do with more like him in the industry!!!!

WAYNE SPENCE MBE

I have known Wayne since he started work on the railway and a better one could not have met. When I was driving and needed information he was the one to ask I shook his hand yesterday. By the way not only a good railman he is quite a good artist as well . :D for him.

I was able to congratulate him in person as he despatched my train from platform 12 yesterday evening. His story was carried in this month's "Railnews". Apparently, and with typical modesty, when he received the letter notifying him of his honour, he thought at first that he was being called up for jury service
