Beeching's Tracks on BBC4 13th Nov 20:30

Post by yowie »

... with Nicholas Crane. I knew he was a railway man, I could just smell it .

See this BBC4 page for programme details: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fl3tq- Not sure if it is on iPlayer, though.

This was shown in eastern England the other Sunday as part of the "Down The Line" strand. It's well worth watching.

This could be the first of several items as my recording box prompted me to take the option to record the series.

Yes, hopefully they're going to re-show each of the different "Down The Line" programmes that was shown in each BBC region a couple of Sundays ago. In two weeks, they're showing the Portishead to Minehead one we saw here in the West. The South-west one was also good, covering the possible re-opening of the LSWR route from Exeter to Plymouth.

The Ian Hislop program is on tonight on BBC 2 but I can't find any more of the "Down the line" series that was on. Here in the West was from Portishead to Minehead and the Norfolk one was for them lot over in yonder East.
Hope the others in that series are going to be shown.......

BBC4, Thursday 4 December 8:30pm
Beeching's Tracks

Edwina Currie takes a journey across London and the South East to examine the legacy left behind by one of the most notorious men in British railway history, Dr Beeching. She meets the people and places affected by his cuts and discovers how, 40 years later, they have turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

This is the "Down the Line" programme shown in the South-East.

"Blessing in disguise" my a***! But then Ms Currie probably has to stick to the party line...

Hmmm, maybe BBC4 is going to show some more of the series then. I noticed this coming Thursday (27 Nov) the West program is being shown in the Beeching Tracks series as program 2 of 6. Presumably the South East one will be 3 of 6.

Had a look at Beechings Tracks on the BBC 4 site and it only mentions programs 1 and 2 even though it says the series length is 6.

I'm sure there were more than 6 on Down The Line, wonder if they will be shown anywhere?
