Oliver Cromwell 70013 in Bristol Thursday 11-9-08

Post by mow »

Steam Dreams are running to Bath and Bristol this Thursday Sept 11th. The engine will be Oliver Cromwell 70013, provisional times are arrival at Bath 14.00 and Bristol 14.15hrs.

It leaves Bristol Temple Meads station at 17.33hrs picking up from Bath at 17.50hrs.

The times are provisional on the SD site.

The last time I saw this engine was in 1967 or 1968 shunting freight vans at Kingsmoor Freight Yard in Carlise.

I don't know what the WR thought of the Britannia's being used instead of Castles, but how often did they appear in Bristol? Any opinons from those in the know?

I have corrected the date!

Brits were regularly seen in the Bristol area. They worked a number of South Wales to Paddington expresses as well as some from Paddington to Bristol. They also had workings from Cardiff to Salisbury. Towards the end of steam a number of northern based Brits worked to Bristol on a summer Saturday Wolverhampton to Ilfracombe working.

Some creative rearranging of my lunch hour saw me drive to Keynsham and back from Bristol city centre. 70013 was absolutely hammering through, what a fantastic job done on the restoration. What a beauty!

Nice shots from Salisbury of the valve gear. Thanks for sharing the pics from Keynsham. I failed to take any, thanks to weather, and own incompetence... :?
