Whatever the issues. FGW got all the passengers where they needed to be, at the time they were supposed to be there. And they didn't use bus replacements.

If I was travelling on it I'd have been reasonably pleased with the outcome.

Ok it wasn't a HST, but i remember the days when railways always substituted other stock when things went wrong. Thats why there was always spare stock parked up around the network.
I am actually surprised that FGW managed to find spare stock, but i imagine the truth is some other poor sods lost the train they were supposed to be getting. I agree with Hattie, the outcome for the people on the pacer was a lot better than the usual FGW outcome, one of their buses!
