Help: Is this statement true?

Hi All,

After a bit of advice or confirmation. This for engines that arrive at Severn Beach station, the little single or double carriage things. Not sure of class.

The offender:

"Once shut down, the engines cannot be restarted for 20 minutes?"

Is this true? I'm sure when I was working at Bath Road on TPWS that the BTM pet shutter and 66's were always switching on and of regular, no 20min limitations.

When the unit comes to a stand and the driver does not stop the engines. The engines with the master key out will automatically shut down after 15 minuites have passed, they can be restarted when the driver opens a new driving cab at any time.

That's probably something from the First Great Western rulebook...

The second - generation DMU's were programmed to shut down after fifteen minutes or so after the master key had been removed.
Restarting could be done at any time, once the key had been re-activated.
This feature was deemed appropriate after BR was found to be wasting enormous amounts of fuel by allowing traction units to idle for hours, if not days on end.
All the more modern DMU's, such as Voyagers, Turbostars, etc., have the same feature.

This instruction and information was in all the BR training manuals ie;33xxx green books ok I do hope this helps.
