BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 76079 will be hauling this tour from Bristol to Brighton on Sunday.

76079 is moving light engine from Bury to Bristol today, times for the light engine movement are available here http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t07/t0628p.htm

Waited at Pilning for the loco to arrive, some shots posted below. It seemed to be running well. I did wonder about the merits of pictures from Cattybrook. Link for the lazy below.

Incidentally, Pilning station has no stopping trains during the week, although the 08.34 to Weymouth stops on a Saturday. There is also a 'new' notice stating that car parking is prohibited on railway property.

Can anyone on here truely claim to have caught a train from here or alighted at the station?

Out of curiousity I had a look at National rail Enquiries which shows one moring train from Pilning to BTM at 08.34 (Sat only) but two from BTM back to Pilning at 14.24 and 15.24 (also Sats only). Okay for anyone shopping in Bristol but absolutely useless for any Pilning people wanting a day in Cardiff.

One day they will admit that the station has had to close due to lack of patronage!!!!!

I have never caught a train there and am unlikely to as I cannot get back from there if I started from BTM.

The notice I saw stated that there are no trains Monday to Friday; and after September 15th the 08.34 to Weymouth, and the 15.41 to Cardiff. It is even more desolate that it was time I was there in May.

I believe it is only kept open in case there is an emergency in the tunnel and they need to get people off a train.

To be in an emergency and then to be dumped at Pilning for rescuing creates another emergency in itself! Not somewhere I'd like to be left whilst feeling a bit shaken up!

Now I might have got this wrong.... but isnt this a 4MT or am I getting confused?????

It is a class 4 by power, Mixed Traffic Tank engine, or 4mt tank.

This shows one of the others at the Churnet Valley Railway, the 4 refers to the power classification I believe.

yep the 4 is the power classification

MT means mixed traffic.

4MT doesn't let you identify whether it is tender or tank engine though.

Thats where I was getting confused then! I guess the same as saying Type 1 for a Class 20 diesel loco? Cheers chaps!

There are three types of Riddles-"designed" (to be honest he didn't do much) "Class 4MT" BR Standard locomotives.

The 80xxx 2-6-4 tanks, and 75xxx 4-6-0 tender locomotives are technically very similar, as they share the same boiler, cylinders, and driving wheels. They are the final development in a long line of LMS 2-6-4 tanks by Fowler, Stanier, and Fairburn.

The 76xxx 2-6-0s are developed from the unpopular Ivatt class 4 "Flying Pigs", and have proved far superior to their predecessor. This class is the smallest of the Standard 4 types, with boiler, cylinders, and driving wheels all smaller than the other two classes.

yes there are lots of classes that were "type 1s" - or rather there were, very few left now. Class 20 being just 1 of them.

Did anyone go out to see this? I waited around for an hour and ten mins beyond its due time with no joy.

Managed to get a few pics of a Hanson 59 and 47 "Great Western" so not complete waste of time....

Not really what I was hoping for....
