Half an Hour at Pilning and St Andrews Road - PIC HEAVY

Lastnight I spent half hour or so at Pilning and then St Andrews Road. With such lovely weather last evening it was too much of an opertunity to miss a bit of "watching trains":D

Upon arival at Pilning and within 3mins the first sighting...HST storming out of Severn Tunnel and climbing to Bristol...

Litterally as soon as the HST has gone through I turned around this was comming the other way...token 158 x2

Another 10mins after the 158, a Class 66 arrived with a train load of scrap

HST heading to Wales

Then headed to Avonmouth where saw the following...

Token 143 at St Andrews Road

Class 66 working the loading of hoppers

The resident shunter just sat enjoying the sunshine

Very nice pics Rich. Particularly like the top HST one, great heat haze. Can I ask what camera you use?

Its a Nikon D50, I'm just trying to get into photography and most of the reviews recommended this as a good start. I've also used a lot of Nikon survey equipment in the past and always found it very good quality stuff.

Lens wise I've started messing about with a Sigma 70-300mm, not top spec but good enough for me to get started. I'm happy with it as it gets you from the platform at Pilning a suprising long way down the line.

Now I've made a start and got used to and comfortable with the camera, next thing I think on the shopping list is a filter to play about and control colour a bit more...oh and as I found out last night a dust cleaning kit

It was too much of a lovely evening to miss not being out so thought would just go get some shots at some of my favourite locations.

Get yourself down there, I like it because it is quite rural but not so in the sense that you have to drive miles to out of town to get there!

You also have excellent views both up and down the line which gives you good time to prepare, although Welsh bound stuff can still take you by suprise if your not watching!

Evening and Morning shots can be a bit of a problem here though as you face the sun in the morning and eve...
