The Severnside Ramblers Sunday 22.04.07
Bit "out of region"... does anyone have any info on the running times for the above trips?

Was in process of pasting the same link, but was beaten to it.
However the Dean Forrest Railway's website has this;
Timings û to be confirmed û are arrival at Lydney Junction 10.51, arrival at Parkend 11.30 and back at Lydney Junction 12.15. The DFR will be running a special timetable in the morning to enable visitors to travel from Norchard Station to see the historic arrival at Lydney Junction.

Nice low level shots of the train at Pilning, and profiles by the viaduct at Winterbourne. I must try out both Pilning and the Winterbourne in the future. Thanks for posting them.
I went over to Cattybrook footbridge, eight others were there at 8.15, who had grabbed the left hand vantage points; in the end I counted other 14 people taking videos or stills.

Went over to Lydney later on, but just missed the train reaching the DFR station, as 45407 made up the lost time! however some more shots were taken and will be uploaded later.

I enjoy Pilning as it is always good to see them working hard climbing the hill out of the tunnel. The only problem with it as a location for taking pics is that there is limited depth of view.
There is a lane further up the hill adjacent to the line I'm hoping to explore soon. Also the other problem is that pre noon the sun is always directly infront of you when taking pics of locos on the down line.
Anyhow...
Popped up to Sharpness to witness an unbelivable turnout of people in the local park to watch the Severnside Rambler turn round back for Gloucester. Well in excess of 100 people locals etc all turned up to watch
47407 Arriving at the end of the line at Sharpness Docks
Once stopped these gents disembarked from the train and there was a lot of pointing with pens as to, what would seem a fairly simple procedure being made a little complex. From what I overheard it appeared as that the assumption that all the remaining pointwork at Sharpness was fully functioning and working...a Network Rail bloke appeared with a bag of spanners and got to work removing the locking bolts from the point blades.
The loco was then removed from its train to commence run round...again note more pointing...

30mins later the Severnside Rambler is heading back to Gloucester...

I am trying to sort out the pics from Lydney, it was packed there as well. With difficulty I had to prise the camera out of my better half's mitts, for some reason she decided that she wanted to photograph the steam engines.
My better half now wants to "have a go" and thus spent the journey home asking me about how you drive a steam engine and how they work.

This was the last trip to Sharpness.
Exactly on time 45407 heads towards Sharpness tender first shortly after leaving the mainline.
At Sharpness.
At the same bridge where the top one was taken from.
After waiting for a few minutes at Berkeley Road Junction 45407 rejoins the mainline about 20 minutes late.

A bit more of a sour note, but I feel this is important. There are some real morons out there within the enthusiast community.

he alienates people permanently, which would be a shame.
If you want to do a shot, get to your vantage point early to get your
place.
NEVER EVER deliberately try to spoil the shot for someone else.
Follow the rules and you will find us friendly and helpful."

Whilst I agree with some of this, the behaviour of some individuals at the weekend was pretty bad. Upon arrival at Sharpness me and the GF got in the car and took a drive through the residential area adjacent to the playing fields where the above pics were taken.
It was clearly very busy with people returning to their cars and lots of people trying to pull out. As we left Sharpness a bloke in BMW 5 series decides that it is completly acceptable to drive up our rear aggressivly, shaking arms to go faster and eventually he over take us with people and children walking about and busy traffic in a residential area.
After his antics he gained the distance of one car ahead and can only comment as his actions as appaling...as we pased he was running about like a loon getting all the camera gear out of the car, so you do have to question is it worth getting all worked up and risking lives of others for the sake of a single shot?
Whilst stood at Pilning in the morning I was persistantly being stared at by a couple of photographers and was thinking about asking them what the issue was. I was stood behind them by about 20m and wasnt even in their line of sight, had I breached boundries?
I also had a wander about the platforms and asked a gent if I stood in a posistion would I be in his way. Even though he said not, he seemed a bit miffed that I'd asked. Is there an unwritten agreement that there must be boundaries set between each photographer? With such confined locations and fields of view people are bound to be a problem.
Whilst I'm very much in the learning process of photography, I took this shot at Pilning and whilst not the best I like the fact its captured everyone enjoying the loco going through Pilning with all eyes on it...
Whilst these events are nice to watch some people need to loose the egos and relax and just accept that it is busy and unfortunatly poeple will get in your shot. People came and stood near me during the day out and didnt bother me in the slightest. You have to remember that a majorty of the people at such an event are there to see it because it is something that is happening in their local area and they may not apretiate/understand the nature of photography.
At 6'2" I can normally see over most people anyway

Have been posting some of the shots from Lydney, piles of old rails provide some atmosphere. Trouble is I can't remember who is responsible for the pictures, some are mine, and some are not. Last time she had charge of the camera was at Crofton, and although I wasn't convinced she had the correct settings, she proved I had misjudged her.
