Kingswood Junction

Post by BristleGWR »

Regarding the recently added Kingswood Junction page I contacted my brother reference archive material and he has found a photograph in a magazine showing 5091 Cleeve Abbey (GWR Castle Class) at Kingswood Junction (NDTSDN advises:- The photo is in the paperback book Past and Present (No 16) - Avon, Cotswolds and the Malverns. Published by SLP in 1993. ISBN I 85794 002 4 by Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse. Photo is on page 109. Photo credited to David Wall. NB Milepost 128 is the distance from Derby)

I've also found a couple of photo's taken near Kingswood Junction by my father. They're not the best of quality I'm afraid but they give an idea of what the area looked liked before it became 'protected'. The photo's were taken around 1965(ish).

This photograph shows a 9F (92150) climbing light engine towards Fishponds. On the left you can see the line branching off towards the 7 arches at Royate Hill (top of them just visible to the right).

About the best I could get for a now shot.

This photograph was taken a hundred or so yards further up and is looking down the line towards Bristol. Although not very clear you can see Kingswood Junction signal box and the junction itself.

This was a bit of a waste of time, the very approximate now shot!!

Just before Kingswood Junction the line crossed Rose Green Road.

Again a few more trees now than there used to be.

These are superb!

I particularly like the second one, the loco seems fit to burst with the work she's doing. Also, those two kids watching, and the twin telegraph poles. So much atmosphere.

Thanks for posting, they're great :D
