Bath Road Signalbox

Post by James »

Aww no they demolished it :(

I've stood on platform 15 so many times waiting for the last train home late at night so the signalbox was a familiar sight. The concrete lintels on the windows were in very bad shape though, split and cracked...I expect a lot of the structure had "concrete cancer".

The box was a very eerie sight late at night, dark and silent, but the windows were always lit by a flickering orange glow. The first time I saw it I thought there might be a fire inside, but it must just have been the reflection of the lights of traffic on the bridge...mustn't it? Maybe there was someone still inside working the levers, guiding invisible, silent locomotives in and out of the abandoned depot...

Shame, but as there was not really any need for it any longer, so it was inevitable.

In the 60's it was called 'Bristol Temple Meads Loco Yard'.

Did it retain such identity to the end?
