Best place/time to photo freight traffic

Post by Dave »

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best time and location so that I can get the most photos in the shortest period of time ?

Thanks

It's a difficult one to call. No matter where you go in Bristol you can't see everything that passes through.

Bristol Parkway would be a good place to start. You'll see a fair amount of traffic to and from Avonmouth, but obviously you won't see the Bristol-South Wales workings.

Filton Abbey Wood is also quite good in that you'll get Bristol-South Wales stuff plus some Avonmouth workings.

Your best bet is to get a Freightmaster:

http://www.freightmaster.uk.com/what_is ... master.htm and plan your photography around that.

Two sightings I can give you that seem to be regular, both Filton Abbey Wood:

11.30-ish. class 60 on an engineers train.
1.45-ish northbound 66 hauled coal train and 66 southbound Hansons.

Another good one is Yate at around 11-30-12.30. South bound oil tankers headed for Westerleigh. Usually 60 hauled.

HTH a bit!
