Tytherington Stone - continually updated!

Post by gtuwist76 »

Thanks to the contributors to Wilts & Avon Gen for this info:

Next weeks Tytherington stone now running tue to fri (13th- 16th June)

6Z23
Westbury 0442, Yate 0606 0611, Tytherington 0641

6C38
Tytherington 1144. Yate 1214 1219, Westbury 1334

Apparently," the track has to pass Net-Rail line inspection on Monday, and barrier at Latterage needs repair after a hit and run lorry smashed it last year. The old token and instrument was also stolen last year from Yate Middle, but this has been replaced".

Def worth a visit !

Does anyone know why it has been in mothballs for the past 18 months then?

I just saw on a gen site that today's train has been 'caped' which I think means it's not running.

Shed's all the way I reckon, with an occasional Skip if we're lucky.

Because there has been no trains running along the line. It only serves the quarry and if they're not exporting stone by road....

The traffic has now ended, lets hope that it's a start of a new flow though. Incidently a few months ago the weedsprayer went down the branch so it hadn't been out of use for as long as some stated.

Love to hear any news on the old Thornbury line, so it seems this is the place to be! :D

I've lived in Thornbury most of my life and can just about remember some remains from the railway while exploring the area near the industrial estate in my youth (1980s).

I also work on the Stover Trading Estate (Yate) just down from the river Frome where the quarry line passes over the river.

Excellent pics on the site, especialy that one of the quarry train passing through at the unprotected crossing in Iron Acton. I sometimes have a quick pint at the pub up from there:

I'll keep my eyes peeled 8)

the opening and closing of the quarry

Post by tugboatcharly2 »

attending a consultation meeting with BR management .yes we talked to one another about things back to the quarry the quarry owners wanted to try rail for a new contract to supply aggregate from Tytherington what the service would be how the crossings would operate etc;and that the long term for operations was no1 new contracts and that the quarry could at some stage be mothballed which happened branch was not to be closed permanently. hope that helps
