Sorry to confuse.

Available both 3rd and 10th. I believe that 34067 'Tangmere' is due to work a special from Didcot via Bath on 3rd, timings I know not. Probably I shall do both days, and fill both with interesting things!

Rhymney locos - I may be wrong, but believe 4th December is an extravaganza with not only 37s, but also a 31, 33, 47 and a 50 - pretty fantastic, but just happens to be day that I am booked for a Christmas lunch with my dear wife! 4th is definitely the day to go if you can, but I understand the actual changeover from loco to dmu is 11th December, making the 10th the last day.

If I've got this wrong, please tell me and save me a wasted trip to South Wales! [/u]

In short:

Perhaps I should have been clearer about my random thoughts -

3 December - phot 34067 somewhere, and trip to Severn Beach in the afternoon, then drinks.

10 December -
morning - class 37 in Wales
lunch at BTM
afternoon - trip to Severn Beach
early evening - FoSBR meeting, which looks very good - I read Ian Marchant's book and look forward to this meeting; yes, I'll join on the day
afterwards - drinks

Really sorry if I've been confusing anyone; just thought I'd throw some ideas into the ring. Really looking forward to meeting folk, in whatever format is adopted as suiting the most people.

Train times from Temple Meads to Severn Beach on Saturdays:

Depart
11:56
12:35
13:22
15:01

Anything later than this and it will be dark!

As the date(s) approach we'll need to decide which one of these we intend to meet up for.

The Class 45 on the 3rd is at Bath at 12. It'll presumably come through TM at about 20 past, which might make it worthwhile being at TM (or Bath) to see that and then all aboard for SB on the 12.35. However, depending on how far people might be travelling, meeting up for the 13.22 may be a better idea?

I'm only on for the 3rd, and will be at TM or Bath (depending on her route) either way, so I'm easy on whichever time train people want to go on.

I believe that the steam special on 3 December (34067) has been pulled, so that leaves us with the Peak. Happy to fit in with majority opinion. Catching an earlier train to SB may allow for a bit of photography and/or country pub, but it depends on how far people are coming from - and weather!

10 December seems to have more going on with FOSBR meeting, but I hope to come up for both days anyway.

Regards

Okay, with a just a few days to go to the 3rd, and just over a week to the 10th, it would be handy to have a show of hands as to who's coming along!

As I've said before I can only make the daytime on the 3rd. I've got Mr Ball down as coming along. Anyone else? If it's just me and him I can take it to email and arrange how we're going to meet. I'm still up for meeting up after work for coffee/tea/beer/donuts and a spot of nightime photography for anyone who can't make it during the day?

The 10th? Any definites? Does anyone want to arrange the time and place to meet? Platform 3, 12.30?

Missed Connection!

Post by jules »

Well, it seems we are going to miss our Christmas Day Out by a long mile! With Xmas so soon around the corner, I have a proposal (bah! humbug!):

Why not re-arrange it for some time in January when we will all be less busy? Would still be good for those of us who can/would like to, to meet up for a chat, trip up to the beach and a beer, regardless of time of year.

If anyone else is up for a Saturday in Jan, let's have your available dates and we can pick the one when most of us can make it.

But one humble suggestion: let's leave it purely as a meet at TM for lunch/coffee, go to SB and return via a suitable hostelry, rather than turning it into a mammoth rail-fest depending on whatever trips etc. are going on. That way, we might get something organised that stands a chance of actually happening :)

I'm all for still having a meet, and I very much favour the KISS approach, as you say much better chance if it happening that way.

Having said that, I'd prefer to keep it -really- simple and make it a meet one evening at TM. Provisonally just a half hour/hour job where we can meet in the cafe on platform 3 and put a few names to faces etc. Maybe take some pics around the station.

If anyone should turn up for that then I imagine it'll be a lot easier to arrange a trip to SB or whatever at some stage in the future.
