I -think- the proposal is to run a buslane down the current A369.
Of course the proposal doesn't mention -how- the bus will actually negotiate traffic that currently uses that road. There isn't enough room for a bus lane and a roadway.
The guys at Easyjet are promoting the Severn Beach line in this month's in-flight magazine (Bristol destination section, October) -

The train passes many local stops including the Downs, Clifton Downs shops and it also passes right through the Avon Gorge on its way out of the city. Expect an increase in week-end users (does the service run on Sundays?) from those who choose Bristol for a 'get away' destination from various European cities.
It's been mentioned in various places as being one of the most scenic railway journeys in the world.
I mean, I can see the Gorge as being a huge attraction, but the coal loader and warehousing at St Andrews Road?? I can't imagine many foreign tourists being too pleased to travel through that lot.
(mind you, I love all that industrial stuff myself!)

There's no way for anyone other than myself to upload pics to the website itself, (I wouldn't trust the porn spammers with such a feature) but if you can send the scanned photos to my email address I'll more than happily stick them online.
Looking forward to seeing these pictures once they can go onto this website. The SB branch is one of Bristol's treasures, and even more so in the 60s - 70s. Particularly happy memories for me as in August 1977, living at Newport, I had to re-take an exam in the Victoria (I think) Rooms at Clifton. Carless, I found the easiest way was to take the excursion train that used to run in summer holidays from Swansea to Clifton Down - got me there just the right time for the exam and left just aftyer the exam finished. Loco hauled (37), great weather, travel over normally goods only lines - and I passed the exam!
Sentiment apart, it seems crazy to even think about destroying this line, which can cure so many traffic problems. Better to restore double track and an all day train service to SB. Also a useful diversionary line - I was on a Virgin train last summer that went this way.
I really appreciated those 70s photos - a blast from the past. I find these black and white (good old Instamatic?) snapshots much sincere than the clever stuff. Hoping that you find some more of these and the time to put them on the forum.
'fraid I have no idea what happened to it.....have loaded a few more photographs of Barry (if anyone can identify any of the locos I would appreciate it).
Have also added some photos to the Bristol site that were given to me by my Dad at the weekend. They relate to the Avonmouth area and date back to the fifties. (My Dad was the GM at the smelting works).
Also one that I got form the Evening post in 1971 of KGV at Stapleton Road on the return to steam tour 1971.
Spooky! I was exploring so many of those places at the same era. Ashton Junction, Pilning Low Level, Bath Green (car) Park, Yatton Signal Box, the fly-ash trains. And with my parents' Instamatic too. I've got near-duplicates of several of those shots.
