"Thing" in Bristol

Post by James »

Can anyone identify this? It's not railway, and it is very likely to be connected with the VJ Day anniversary:

"On the way to work today, between the Hope and Anchor and Clifton Triangle, I saw the most weird thing. On the back of a HGV was what looked like a cross between an aeroplane engine and a space shuttle. At first I thought it was an engine, but it had what looked like rocket thrusters rather than any form of turbines.

It was at about 12.40pm.

It had American flags on it. "

"Weird thing was it was on the back of a pretty old lorry. It was also not covered in any way."

This is the most bizarre description of anything I've ever heard...does anyone know what it was?

Well, I don't know what it was... :P

But, it was 1940s weekend at the Docks and there were loads of tanks, jeeps and various other weird military machines down there so the American flags could have been on one of those vehicles while it was perhaps travelling home.

We popped down there in the afternoon and had to pull over to one side of the road to allow enough room for an amphibious vehicle to get past. Now, my litttle 'un had never seen an amphibious craft before and you should have seen her face when five minutes later we saw the same vehicle pass in front of us in the water!

Someone's identified it as a "space simulator" from the fun fair at the Balloon Fiesta. There was me thinking it might be something interesting

I get the feeling the person who originally reported it isn't that bright :P
