Isn't some of this old news?

I got the impression from somewhere that, in connection with electrification, it was planned to take the Panel Box down and part of the old station would be brought back into use.

Or have I been having some of those dreams again? :)

PS - if even part of the "proper" platform 12 gets reinstated back as far as the station roof I want to see "Leander" parked in it at some time ;)

...or MR Compound No. 1000 with three LMS coaches! (My first recollection of travelling by train to Bristol was behind ex-MR 4-4-0 No. 41123).

Incidentally, as the last time I was on TM platforms was probably 1975, you might excuse the following questions.
1) Is there still a refreshment room (sorry - bistro / gastropub or whatever it would be nowadays) on the old platfrom 9? As I recall it used to be between 9 and 12 - handy for the Gloucester trains.
2) Is there still a glass-cased model King class loco on the station (used to be on Pl. 9)? You used to be able to make the wheels rotate by putting in an old penny. Guess if it's still there it'd be 50p by now!

In Relation to Question 2: Yes the model of the King is still present on Platform 3!

The refreshment rooms are still there on what is now platform 3 and known as 'Bonapartes'.

In the late 70's when I was working at Bath Road, I overhauled the operating mechanism for the King using an old Hymek time delay relay which was still lying around in the stores. The hardest part was balancing the treadle to accomodate decimal coinage. A 2p piece was the only one heavy enough. The guy who looked after it and collected the proceeds for the'Helping Hand Fund' was Mick Chriswick who was the machinist in the Heavy Lift Shop. It isn't a particularly accurate model if the outside steam pipes are anything to go by. Someone else appears to have further updated the operating mechanism since.

It is old news Bristol Panel will eventually disappear opening up parts of the Old Station for newer trains. Interesting thing is St Andrews Box will remain long after Bristol goes.

Politicians and the local press will "announce" it about 50 times before it ever happens!
