The last train to Salisbury leaves at 2225. The last London (that I shall be on) leaves at 2230.
So, if we met at say 6pm and quit officially at 10pm, that should give plenty of time ...

"Quit officially?!"

It's a pub meeting Jules, not a Board meeting! As I recall from the last one, the night "got a lot less young" after about 2200 as people started drifting away. And I don't know about you, but four hours "on the pop" would make absolutely sure that I woke up in Paddington on my way home to Chippenham

If you think that starting at 1800 would be a good idea, that's fine with me, but I shall be joining you at about 2015, after the 1830 ex-Padd gets in :)

I'd be quite happy to sit there from 1800 as otherwise, I have to go all the way to Sea Mills and then come all the way back to town again. By "Quit Officially" I meant probably the latest time anybody would want to turn up :D

Jules, I will probably be there about 1800 coming up on 1A27 non stop from WSM so you won't be drinking alone. That's assuming it gets in from Paddington on time for its very tight turnround.

Apart from winding up our northern friends about Flying Pigs, any other thoughts on a theme? If this becomes a regular event, perhaps we could turn it into a local railway pub quiz.

Well, we've done 82E, so perhaps I could make an 82B sign for this one :D

1800 it is then ...

Ha ha, you won't be winding us up on Flying Pigs! Our good friend Adrian Tester, Author of that fine book "In Defence of the Big Goods" pointed out that the Pigs cost a third as much again as the 4Fs (comparison made with batch built in 1943) and had a lot more weight to drag about. Come to think of it, we haven't seen any pictures of a Flying Pig on the Devonian either, unlike a certain other class 4.

Righto, 22nd October it is- I'll be there and I'm sure my hairy 55F colleague will be up for it.

Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Ralph

Splendid! Glad to hear we still have thick skins up there. Takes me back to my time in the Crimpsall as an apprentice circa 1972. As a 'soft southerner' I felt somewhat intimidated.

Now as to 82B, are we talking the proper 82B or the Happydrome which replaced it a decade later?

Now I really am looking forward to the next pub meet up!!! :D

If you're looking for a cheap "turn" - forget it. I've not picked a guitar up since 1999 :)

Last time I brought along my collection of photographs that used to be on sale at Bath Road - looks like this time I'll have to bring my old publicity handouts...

Mind you, I did get into "Rail News" once in 1974 because I did ATV "New Faces" - came 4th out of 7. Arthur Askey liked it (Micky Most didn't...). The winner that week was a comedian called Billy Moocho - I wonder what became of him?

Now I suppose I'll have to bring the contract along to prove that is true as well

Completely off topic as regards the thread generally, but almost on topic for the content of this page, I found this on YouTube tonight.

Chicago to New Orleans via Goodrington Sands, apparently :)

From some of the other pictures, it looks like it really did take the long way round!

Coo, so it was Robin with Arthur Askey on that Derby 4 in "The Love Match"! Can you get Shirley Eaton to come along to the next meeting as well?? Her Lancashire accent was a bit cod but Messrs Turton and Platt never made a finer set of buffers!!
You can tell a Derby man, but you can't tell him much!
