The Royal Duchy. 5th May.
Updated timings for The Royal Duchy railtour with Tangmere and Oliver Cromwell on Saturday, 5th May.

An unusual combination of locomotives but have these classes ever paired together before in BR days? The Brits were allocated to Plymouth for a short while and the spamcans ran to the LSWR terminus at Plymouth Friary . Occasionally the spamcans ran via Newton Abbot. Food for thought. <BJ>

I'm wondering where's the best place to see these in action on the way back to BTM. Possibly Parson Street station, or might they be cruising in by then, without much steam?free2grice wrote:Updated timings for The Royal Duchy railtour with Tangmere and Oliver Cromwell on Saturday, 5th May.

Consider either Yatton Station or a bit further up at Claverham Drove (Pedestrian Crossing)...Geoffers wrote:I'm wondering where's the best place to see these in action on the way back to BTM. Possibly Parson Street station, or might they be cruising in by then, without much steam?
The view south has fantastic line of sight and is straight as an arrow coming off the levels.

There are two crossings north of Yatton station which could be suitable.
The first is a foot path accessed from Moor Lane, Yatton
The second is the accomodation crossing at Mud Lane, Lower Claverham.
From there towards Bristol there are a number of locations, including the newish cycle track around Flax Bourton.

Many thanks. I will examine these excellent suggestions though having to rely on public transport doesn't make it easy!
Incidentally, I note that the train continues on to Paddington hauled by diesel. I wonder when Oliver Cromwell & Tangmere will be leaving BTM, and where they are bound next?

Both locos are due to haul their next railtours on the 19th May. Tangmere will haul a train from London to Kent but Oliver Cromwell will probably stay at Barton Hill as its' next railtour is from Bristol to Par and return. <BJ>Geoffers wrote:I wonder when Oliver Cromwell & Tangmere will be leaving BTM, and where they are bound next?

Timings made it impossible for me to get to the Yatton area which would have been preferable, but I did manage a short video of them passing through Parson Street station, just as the light was beginning to fade.free2grice wrote:The train was 20 mins early at Exeter. The local WSM-Bristol stopper put paid to that and the train arrived at BTM 5 late. <BJ>
