On local (west country) news last night it seems that electrification of great western line will not now be happening.
I don't suppose that is a great surprise.

... and on Points West tonight we saw the Minister of Transport standing up in the Commons saying approval has been given.

Personally, I shall believe it when the contract is awarded and the contractors get on site ...

And in Wales they are saying that it will cut 20 minutes off the journey times. If I recall correctly, that will only be the same timings as when the HST's were first introduced in the 1970s.

I recall one amazing run, Paddington to Parkway, non stop, in 61 minutes.
