Yate: The 40-year-old man, believed to be local, was decapitated as the Virgin train on the Cheltenham to Bristol service was unable to stop in time.
About 15 commuters were on the platform at the time of the tragedy, which happened just before 5.30pm last night.
Many of the bystanders were comforted by Avon Ambulance staff who were called to the scene. The driver of the Virgin Rail service was also taken off the train and treated for shock.
The line between Bristol and Birmingham was closed for more than an hour. An investigation has been launched.
