Thanks very much for that info Roy - I'd never heard of these books but I've found their website ( http://www.shedbyshed.com/ for anybody else interested) & will have to get Vol 6 myself. The very shortlived allocation of 41198 in May/June 1953 is surprising in view of the departure of all the others a year previously.

Hello Bristol Railway Archieve. This is my first post, I'll probably mess it up. I'm a Bristolian now living in Australia - I've been down under for the last 37 years now but clearly recall many years of railway interest in and around Bristol from about 1948 and on. Yes you could say I'm from the start of BR. LMS Compounds were a part of the scene in Bristol during the first ten years or so. I've just copied to ' My Pictures ' a photo of # 40925 [21B ] double heading a Black Five on an express through Lawrence Hill Station to the Midlands and beyond. I would like to share this photo with you all but so far I haven't worked out how to include it. Can some one post me some assistance with this task. Incidently I have many more photos taken around Bristol, not all first class but certainly of archival interest. Phil H. Leura. Oz.
Hello again - Further to my post of a few hours ago. I have been reading in detail more of your posts on this subject. That Fotopic site and the date that applied to all pictures. Quite possibly many photos were taken on one day, more likely the photographer was a bit like me. he put them in his collection / albums thinking he would easily remember just when he took them. 50 years later all he can remember was the decade! So he enters a date using the current day and month and picks a year in the fifties - 1955? Incidently in the early 1950's when 15 brand new Brittanias were first allocated to the Western Region - Apollo, Ariel, Arrow, Flying Dutchman, Lightning, Mercury, Venus, etc. etc. One could observe two or three or even four in one days spotting at BTM. The Rebuilt WC pictured in the series has no nameplate so the photo could be even later in the 1960's when many nameplates were removed for safety. I have photos of ' City of Truro's ' first visit to Bristol in 1957. That was a fine Summers evening unlike the day in the Fotopics compilation. Incidently it was the only time I was able to get on shed at 82A without a pass in my spotting days. The photo of mine that I mentioned in my first post has a Compound double heading an express through Lawrence hill for the Midlands that would be taking the Badminton line as far as Westerly Junction then regaining the Midland line to Gloucester and the North. 40925 - the compound was shedded at 21B Bourneville at the time. I can give you that it was taken between the Summer of 1954 and summer 1957. In case I can't attach photos to this forum, several of my photos taken around BTM including Pug 51217 in Avonside Yard are posted on the railway forum - steam-box.com - visitors are welcome to browse. welcome to BRA & thanks for your posting about Compounds. It's a great photo of 40925 at Lawrence Hill - & of course very nostalgic given the number of times I got off a train there to get to Barrow Road. I didn't know about Steam Box so thanks for that too. I've had a quick browse - you were certainly lucky to see a King piloting a Star.

Hello Robin, Thanks for your reply on the 2nd. November. I have been a bit tied up for the last few weeks but I have tried to understand the webpage / site you gave in your reply. It didn't seem to suit my vast UN - knowledge of IT. So I think I'll have to stick with posting my photos on - steam-box.com -- I've learn't how to use that site. I will try and post a message in BRA if I post a photo in - steam-box.com - relevant to a topic being discussed. I remember them, but exactly when I stopped seeing them I'm not sure. They appeared sometimes on Gloucester stoppers, as did 2Ps, 4Fs, 2MTs, Black Fives and even Jubilees.
