An incredible piece of railway engineering, shame trains no longer pass over it, although that's not a good reason for not having it on the website

So if you have the chance...

If only there were trains still running across it :(

Is there anything left of Pensford station?

I believe it's a housing estate now. I'm not sure if the end of the viaduct is visible.

We walked the other way, down to the old colliery, crossed the trackbed of the old railway and then headed back into Pensford.

Well I took a visit to the station area while out and about on Monday. The whole area is indeed a housing estate (of the posh, not council type!)

The last house on the estate sits on what I assumed would be the trackbed to the viaduct. There's a big sign on the driveway that reads along the lines of 'private road, no through road, no public right of way' so I guess the poor owner has to put up with hordes of people trampling their property as they vainly try to catch a glimpse of the viaduct. Not wanting to add to his/her woe I simply turned the van around and headed for my next delivery.

I couldn't help but think that the developer had made a huge cock-up by not leaving a public path to a spot overlooking the structure, and this had been reinforced by the planning dept of the council for not insisting on one. You can't stop human nature. People are forever going to be tromping down Station Approach in an attempt to follow the path the trains once took, and whoever lives in the last house on the estate is forever going to have people banging on their front door asking if they can have a look in their back garden. They should have allowed for this in their plans.
