I have walked from Bath to Midford today. I passed anumber of walkers in the Moorfields area and towards Midford but they appeared to be "staying local". Cyclists were not out in great numbers and all were travelling at sensible speeds but few had any lights or had bright clothing.
A number passed ...

I have a couple of shots taken on a pocket digi camera. If I had your email address I could send to you to keep or discrard as appropriate. The problem was attempting shots without visitors - not altogether successful.

That was bad news about the gala day. I was very content to buy a day ticket and to buy food and drink from the buffet.

Not sure if there was a box anywhere, but perhaps the railway should consider a donation box into which we could drop a few coins (or notes) to assist with loco hiring costs.

My comment about hours of darkness was more to do with security. The photographs of the tunnels suggest that it will be quite bright inside and a good opportunity to study the walls etc which in places are (I believe) pure rock.

I am looking forward to this walk but I just might avoid the opening day which may have a few too many cycles there.

I had walked Combe Down tunnel on two organised occasions in recent years and three times back in 1966/67. On the first of those early visits the track was still in situ but on the ...

I have just received a mailshot from the Avon Valley Railway advertising the Santa specials.

The drawing on the poster is a good outline image of a Thompson B1. However the cabside number is of Stanier Class 5 45379.

Oh dear!!!

I have found my Ordnance Survey map of 1953 (revised with minor changes 1961) which shows the sidings on the south side of the line. For location purposes they are immediately below the electricity grid pylons and power lines (at the end of Victoria Road (Bristol A-Z). Hope this helps.

A little too light hearted at times but the basis of a good story in between. Ray Buckton came across in a negative manner (how else!!!) but I believe they are one of the most comfortable means of travel on Britain's railways (as long as you get a seat by a window).

WTTs might be confidential, but all freight movements are readily available in Freightmaster both in book and on line formats. Nuclear flask workings are shown - Bridgwater and Berkeley.

Makes you wonder if they should have opted for longer trains to meet what must have been a heavy demand. Hopefully not too many tickets have been allocated to the corporate element!!!!!!

Should be ok tomorrow. I believe the strike is from midday Saturday to midday Sunday. According to Railway Herald the only local charter affected is Sunday's Torbay Express that I was booked on with my wife. Thanks ASLEF!!!!! It seems a lot of weekend engineering work may be hit by this strike action.
