The wharf is redcliffe wharf and was a council yard in 1965 belonged to the engineers department but I can remember that in 1955 there were a lot of barges moored there at weekends

I remember those compartments, as I recall they were very cold in the winter as the heating never seemed to work and stuffy in the summer

When I was a young fireman there was a gang of us used to hang out under that tunnel and in the shaftbury crusade for cups of tea and coffee
or a bun. We could wave out to our mates as they passed by on the footplate doing there shift, good old days they were :roll:
